This is an example of how someone may gain knowledge through suffering and I personally relate to this, knowing that so many of my life lessons have come because of my mistakes but I have grown as a person because of these. These notes were contributed by members of the GradeSaver community. Creon says this with passion, understanding his mistakes, knowing that now his actions cannot ever be taken back. This quote tells Creon that he is to blame for the reason his family died by his mistakes. “Ah me, how all too late you seem to see the right.” (page 121) She is going to stand up for what she believes is right and this is a characteristic in a person that I admire. Antigone has “cajones” because she says that no matter what Creon says, she is going to oppose the law and give her brother a proper burial. Antigone would rather be dead with her brother than to live without him having a proper burial. It is a true example of personal sacrifice on Antigone’s part. It shows the depth of love that Antigone has for her brother. I shall rest, a loved one with him whom I have loved, sinless in my crime for I owe a longer allegiance to the dead than to the living.” (page 93)Īntigone is talking to her sister, telling her that she’s not afraid to die for what Creon calls the crime of burying her brother. “Be what you will, I will bury him well for me to die in doing so. It shows how Power can go to someone’s head and the potential to abuse Power. Creon puts himself in a more superior place than the Gods. I like this quote because it shows Creon’s true nature. He is telling her that, while he’s alive, he has the last say over everyone, especially over women. While I live no woman shall rule me.” (page 104)Ĭreon is saying these words to Antigone. “Pass then to the world of the dead, and if you must needs love, love them.
